This Weekend

This past weekend was a great spiritual feast for me.  I wanted to share some of the things that stuck out to me this weekend as I was participating in General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

I will just share a few quotes and thoughts.

On Saturday, I was struck by the fact of one of the apostles stating so clearly that the youth today are being raised in enemy territory.  Wow.  That puts a lot on all of us to help the youth to realize what is right and what is wrong without taking away their agency… It just seems the world and the standards in the world continue to worsen.

Also on Saturday, I also really liked the comment about doing:

“Do the right thing at the right time, without delay”

I have heard the first part of this comment before many times, but the added ‘without delay’ is important.  Are we doing the things the Lord wants us to do without delay?  Why do you think that we allow ourselves to delay when it comes to matters of the Lord?

I loved the prophet’s (Thomas S. Monson) about bringing more life to our lives:

“There is nothing that can bring more life to our lives or more joy to our souls than the spirit that comes from following the laws of God and keeping the commandments.”

That is so true.  True joy and life comes from following the Lord.

President Monson also reminded us each of the importance of being worthy to receive inspiration and then trusting it enough to follow it.  Do you trust in the promptings you get from the Lord?

Dallin H. Oaks, an apostle of the Lord, taught about the Savior as he quoted the Lord in the scriptures:

“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

“I am the light of the world, he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness.”

I know that when we follow the Lord, we really do not walk in darkness, but in light.  He leads and guides us.

Lastly, I was reminded of the great and wonderful blessings that I have in my life as Quentin L. Cook said:

“We should be grateful for all the tender mercies that come into our lives.  We are unaware of hosts of blessings that are in our lives day to day.”
