Mortal Beings

We are not mortal beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a mortal experience.

The Quote

One of the quotes that I love dearly that I saw on the wall of one of my dear friend’s bedroom was:

“We are not mortal beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a mortal experience.”

Wow.  When I read that quote I continued to have it in my head day in and day out.  How does this knowledge change the actions that one chooses to make?  How could it change how one looks at oneself?

I know that it has had an impact on my life as I think more of Heavenly Father as a Father, the Father of my Spirit.  He is there to help me.

The Scripture

This quote also makes a scripture clear to me, one that talks of the ‘natural man.’  It is found in Mosiah 3:19:

“For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a Saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.”

We can put off the natural man or the ‘mortal being.’  We are indeed spiritual beings.  Heavenly Father is the Father of our spirits.  He cares for us and wants the best for us.  He waits to bless us and will help us in our journey through our mortal experience.  He has given the great gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.  What are we giving back to Him?
