Because He Lives!!!

THE STORY

Once upon a time there was a girl or you could say a young woman, or perhaps even a woman named Amy…oh, wait that’s me. Yes this is a true experience about me.

I met an amazing man and we began dating in a way… He lived in France and I live in the United States. We would Skype or make video calls to each other whenever we could and we would send long emails every day. It was wonderful. I began to really love him, or at least I considered it love. He was so very nice and caring. I told him about my struggles with depression and how my arms were full of scars, and he looked past those struggles I had and looked forward with hope for the future.

We began talking more about actually meeting each other. We expressed our feelings for each other and loved talking of our possible future together.

At this point, I wanted to be completely honest, not that I wasn’t before…I just wanted to share everything about myself with him. So, I told him about an addiction that I struggled with and how deeply I feared rejection from others.

When I told him of this addiction, he said he would like to help but followed it up with if I knew anyone other woman where I lived that would like him…basically asking me to set him up with one of my friends.

I responded by saying that I was sorry he felt that way and apologized for my shortcomings, but that I would not just pass him on to another one of my friends here in the U.S. He was simply just not the man for me.

I was heartbroken and depression seemed to start seeping in again. I reverted back to my addiction, which I had been clean of for close to eight weeks. This ended up making me feel even worse. After a few weeks, I even went to send him another email telling him how much I missed him, but after reading his final email to me, decided against it. I really hope that he is doing well.

THE LESSON I LEARNED/ THE POINT

Over time, a couple of months, I learned to lean more heavily on my Savior for help and support. I have been learning to be more humble and pure. I have been attending addiction recovery meetings to help with my addiction.

Basically I have learned that ALL is possible through the Savior. I have been trying to trust in Him and His plan for me more and more…which is definitely not always easy.

I know that my Savior lives and that because He lives I can live again, I can live now. Because He lives, I can truly be happy even amidst hard and challenging times in my life. Oh how I do miss the love that comes from being in a relationship with someone you believe truly cares about you, who you believe you could spend forever with.

But I know that the Lord has felt those same feelings that I have felt and that because He lives I can have hope in my life for a better future, for a clean life from addiction, for the strength to keep going in hard times, for so, so much more.

I hope you enjoy the song/video by Sally Deford. It is one of my favorites. What can you do or believe or feel in your life because the Savior lives?

Creating new friends

So many times in our lives we feel lonely and unappreciated. It is through our friends that we often feel the love that the Savior has for us.

Many times in my life I have felt alone and forgotten. Perhaps you can relate to those feelings. I know that friends help us to feel loved and that scriptures can be a source of peace and friendship. We feel the Savior’s love through the scriptures that we read.

One of my favorite scriptures is found in the Book of Mormon in Alma 18:35:

“35 And a portion of that aSpirit dwelleth in me, which giveth me bknowledge, and also power according to my faith and desires which are in God.”

Christ’s spirit lives in us! He loves us and is a part of us every day. Do we live up to that privilege?

I know He loves us and that we can feel that love through our friends, even the scriptures.

You are beloved

Increasing Joy

As I was studying this morning this phrase stuck out to me in 2 Nephi 19:3 when Isaiah speaks of the Messiah:

“Thou hast multiplied the nation, and increased the joy–they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest.”

I have never thought of increasing joy in such a way.  The Savior did increase the joy of those around Him.  So what exactly is joy?

An online dictionary defines joy as the following:

“1.

the emotion of great delight or happiness caused bysomething exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure;elation: She felt the joy of seeing her son’s success.
2.

a source or cause of keen pleasure or delight; something orsomeone greatly valued or appreciated: Her prose style is apure joy.
3.

the expression or display of glad feeling; festive gaiety.

4.

a state of happiness or felicity.”
The Lord helps us to have a pure state of happiness.  His happiness and joy is long-lasting.  He increases joy by helping people to realize their full potential and building people up.
Do you increase the joy?
Do you increase the joy of those around you?  This is the Christmas season.  The season of Christ, where we can have that spirit.  It truly is a time to sing and exclaim “Joy to the World.”  We have great reason to have joy.  Let us strive to increase the joy around us this day.  It will truly bring us happiness.

Entertainment and Media

How are you spending your time?

Entertainment and Media

There is much good that comes from the entertainment, electronics, and the media.  Although this is true, Satan has become exceedingly more prevalent in entertainment, electronics, and media through inappropriate material, etc.  Satan wishes to ensnare each of us in a web of flaxen cord.  He does so a little at a time.  We must ever be careful with what type of entertainment and media we allow into our lives.  We also must be careful of how we spend our time using electronics.  Are we using them for good or evil purposes?

In the pamphlet “For the Strength of Youth,” under the topic “Entertainment and Media” it says:

“Whatever you read, listen to, or look at has an effect on you. Therefore, choose only entertainment and media that uplift you. Good entertainment will help you to have good thoughts and make righteous choices. It will allow you to enjoy yourself without losing the Spirit of the Lord.

While much entertainment is good, some of it can lead you away from righteous living. Offensive material is often found in web sites, concerts, movies, music, videocassettes, DVDs, books, magazines, pictures, and other media. Satan uses such entertainment to deceive you by making what is wrong and evil look normal and exciting. It can mislead you into thinking that everyone is doing things that are wrong.

Do not attend, view, or participate in entertainment that is vulgar, immoral, violent, or pornographic in any way. Do not participate in entertainment that in any way presents immorality or violent behavior as acceptable.

Pornography in all its forms is especially dangerous and addictive. What may begin as a curious indulgence can become a destructive habit that takes control of your life. It can lead you to sexual transgression and even criminal behavior. Pornography is a poison that weakens your self-control, changes the way you see others, causes you to lose the guidance of the Spirit, and can even affect your ability to have a normal relationship with your future spouse. If you encounter pornography, turn away from it immediately.

Depictions of violence often glamorize vicious behavior. They offend the Spirit and make you less able to respond to others in a sensitive, caring way. They contradict the Savior’s message of love for one another.

Have the courage to walk out of a movie or video party, turn off a computer or television, change a radio station, or put down a magazine if what is being presented does not meet Heavenly Father’s standards. Do these things even if others do not. Let your friends and family know that you are committed to keeping God’s standards. You have the gift of the Holy Ghost, which will give you strength and help you make good choices.”

I know that as I choose entertainment and media that is virtuous and uplifting and does not contain immoral or inappropriate material, it is easier for me to feel happy and live my life as the Lord would have me live it.  I know this can be true for you as well.  It may be hard at first, but Heavenly Father will help.  He will help us to see things as they really are.

Restoration

Restoration

What is restoration?  In the Bible Dictionary, restoration is defined as:

“A return of something once present, but which has been taken away or lost.  It involves, for example, the renewal of the earth to its paradisaical glory as it was before the fall of Adam.  In terms of the soul of man it means a return of the individual to the presence of God, and includes the reuniting of the physical body with the spirit.  It means a re-establishment of the gospel of Jesus Christ on the earth in the last days, with the powers, ordinances, doctrines, offices, and all things as they have existed in former ages.  It means a gathering together of the house of Israel from its scattered condition.”

The Lord’s Gospel

There was a period of time where the gospel of Jesus Christ was taken from the earth.  But in these latter days His gospel has been restored!  What a glorious message.  He loves us and has given us the way and the means to return to Him and to receive revelation from Him in our lives.  I am forever grateful.
